AT&T Launches Line of New Quick Messaging Phones

Four New Handsets Coupled with Unlimited Messaging Plans Make Texting Easier than ever before for AT&T Customers

Dallas, Texas, October 14, 2008

In response to the exploding popularity of text messaging among consumers, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced a new line of quick messaging mobile phones that are designed to make messaging faster and easier than ever before. Arriving in time for the holiday shopping season, the Pantech Matrix™ is available today and the Samsung Propel™ and Pantech Slate™ will hit stores in late October, followed by the AT&T Quickfire™ in November.

All four new mobile phones feature full QWERTY keypads, allowing everyone from newbie messengers to textaholics to send text, picture, video and instant messages with ease. The new phones allow customers to quickly and discreetly access all those useful letters and numbers.

A recent Nielsen study suggests that some U.S. consumers now use their cell phones for text messaging more than they do for talking, making this new line of phones from AT&T perfect for many users. In the company's second quarter earnings, AT&T reported text messaging volumes had tripled compared with the same period in 2007.

"This new line of mobile phones will be a hit with both the text messaging generation and users who want to more easily use other functions on their phone, from mobile e-mail to typing in a search term on the pre-installed YELLOWPAGES.COM," said Carlton Hill, vice president of Devices and Product Development for AT&T's wireless operations. "For a lot of reasons, more buttons are better."

All quick messaging phones are compatible with AT&T's messaging bundles that offer 200, 1,500 and unlimited messaging for $5, $15 and $20, respectively. AT&T FamilyTalk® plan customers can get unlimited messaging for all lines for $30.

"As texting continues to win over more people, unlimited messaging bundles become even more valuable for customers and their families," said Mark Collins, vice president of Consumer Products for AT&T's wireless unit. "These phones are perfect for our customers who want a full keypad to help their fingers fly faster when they send messages but don't need corporate e-mail access or other smartphone features."

Pantech Matrix
The Pantech Matrix is available today in navy blue and black with green and will be available Oct. 16 in red. It is $79.99 with a two-year agreement and mail-in rebate1, and it features the unique dual-sliding, double-keypad design that is found on the popular Pantech Duo™ smartphone in AT&T stores. The Matrix features a 1.3 megapixel camera, instant messaging, Mobile Email, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Mobile Music, CV, AT&T Video ShareSM calling and more.

Samsung Propel
A square slider with the best of AT&T's entertainment offerings such as instant messaging, Mobile Email, AT&T Navigator, CV, AT&T Video Share calling, AT&T Mobile Music, a 1.3 megapixel camera and more, the Samsung Propel slides upward for easy access to its full QWERTY keypad. Also available for $79.99 after a two-year agreement and mail-in rebate1, the Propel will be available in late October in blue, green, red, and white with red.

Pantech Slate
The world's thinnest device with a full QWERTY keypad, the Pantech Slate will retail for $49.99 after a two-year agreement and mail-in rebate¹. A bar-style phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera, instant messaging, Mobile Email and Bluetooth® connectivity, the Slate is available in black with royal blue and will also be available in late October.

AT&T Quickfire
A slider boasting a touch screen in addition to the full keypad, the AT&T Quickfire can read messages in portrait or landscape mode and also download music over the nation's fastest 3G network with Napster Mobile and eMusic Mobile. The AT&T Quickfire will be available in November in orange, lime and silver for $99.99 after a two-year agreement and mail-in rebate¹.









Users of the new devices can also browse and purchase thousands of apps, games, ringtones, graphics and other mobile content in the AT&T MEdia Mall, available from their handsets and also online at www.att.com/mediamall.

㈜한글과컴퓨터(www.haansoft.com, 대표이사 김수진, 이하 한컴)는 최근 대만 타이페이에서 열린 인텔개발자회의(IDF, Intel Developer Forum, 10월 20일~21일)를 통해 자체 개발한 모바일 기기용 3차원 사용자 인터페이스(UI)인 ‘3D 큐브(3D Cube, 가칭)’를 처음 선보였다고 23일 밝혔다.




이번 IDF에서 처음 발표된 ‘3D 큐브’는 한컴이 인텔 아톰 프로세서 기반 모바일 인터넷 디바이스(Mobile Internet Device, 이하 MID)의 사용자 편의성을 극대화하기 위해 독자 기술로 개발한 최신 3D 사용자 인터페이스이다. 모바일 기기의 작은 화면에서도 사용자가 원하는 애플리케이션으로 접근을 쉽게 하기 위해 3D 화면에서 6개 면을 이용하여(1면당 9개의 애플리케이션 배치) 원하는 방향으로 자유롭게 구동할 수 있을 뿐 아니라 사용자가 즐겨 찾는 애플리케이션도 직접 배치할 수 있어 편리하다.

한컴은 현재 차세대 사업으로 각광받고 있는 인텔 아톰 프로세서 기반 MID/넷북 전용 운영체제인 ‘아시아눅스 모바일 미디눅스 에디션(Asianux Mobile Midinux Edition)’을 개발하는데 참여하고 있으며 이에 기반한 오피스 애플리케이션인 ‘씽크프리 모바일’ 개발에도 박차를 가하고 있다.

한컴 오픈소스SW사업본부 박준규 상무는 “이번에 한컴 독자기술로 개발한 3D 큐브 인터페이스가 적용될 모바일 운영체제는 다른 모바일 기기보다 탁월한 경쟁력을 갖추게 될 것”이라며 “한컴이 참여하고 있는 아시아눅스 코퍼레이션은 인텔 아톰 기반 넷북 및 MID 사용자들에게 최적의 리눅스 솔루션을 제공하기 위해 노력을 아끼지 않을 것”이라고 말했다.

한편, 이번 IDF에서 한컴이 참여하고 있는 아시아눅스 코퍼레이션은 리눅스 기반의 넷북용 운영체제인 ‘아시아눅스 모바일 넷북 에디션’을 선보였다.

이에 따라 아시아눅스 코퍼레이션은 MID 시장과 함께 최근 관심이 커지고 있는 글로벌 넷북(netbook) 시장도 선점해나갈 수 있는 발판을 마련할 수 있게 됐다.

아시아눅스 모바일 넷북 에디션은 모바일 리눅스 프로젝트 커뮤니티인 ‘모블린(Moblin.org)’의 기술의 장점을 적용 넷북에서 25% 배터리 수명연장과 17% 부팅 속도 향상은 물론, 원활한 인터넷과 미디어 경험까지 제공한다.

인텔 아톰 프로세서 기반 MID용 운영체제인 ‘아시아눅스 모바일 미디눅스’를 개발하고 있는 아시아눅스 코퍼레이션은 경제적인 가격과 빠른 부팅 실행, 친근한 UI디자인 그리고 통합 애플리케이션을 강화한 차기 버전인 ‘아시아눅스 모바일 미디눅스 3.0’ 도 빠른 시일 내에 선보일 예정이다.
